Thank you for your interest in TEACH
Thank you for your interest in TEACH. We are a support group for home educators who share a
common set of beliefs and goals.
On this page you will find some of the numerous benefits TEACH members enjoy, a brief
history of the organization, and our statement of faith.
A Brief History
Home education is an age old concept. Public education, on the other hand, has only been in
existence for a relatively short time. Although public education began as a noble idea in 1838,
secularism has diluted its ability to educate both mind and spirit.
In 1985, several homeschool families from Tallahassee attended a Gregg Harris seminar. He
encouraged them to start a support group. In the beginning the group met in members' homes .
As the group grew, they began to meet once a month in a local church.
From a humble beginning TEACH has grown. Currently we average about 100 families a year.
We are comprised of a healthy mix of both veteran home educators and many who are just
starting out on this wonderful journey. Many of our children have gone on to college and some
are now out on their own.
Our Purpose
- The Mission of TEACH is to equip and encourage other home educators to fulfill the
calling God has placed on their lives to educate their children. We believe there are five
major ways in which this can be accomplished:
- Ensure that the activities, materials, and use of resources are in line with Biblical principles;
- Share Biblical parenting principles;
- Communicate the importance of our freedom to home educate our children and provide
information on complying with state laws governing homeschooling.
- Mobilize members to serve and network with one another:
- Provide guidance in selecting home education curriculum and methodologies, and
provide educational opportunities
Membership Benefits
TEACH has membership dues of $20.00 annually. The following are some of the benefits
included with your membership.
You will receive our monthly newsletter, "TEACH Talk". It contains important information
including: resources; a calendar of monthly events; ; field trips; book reviews;
meetings; and extracurricular classes being offered. You may receive the newsletter
electronically or by regular mail.
We have an outstanding library (open at the monthly meeting) which continues to grow. The
library is full of excellent tapes, videos, magazines, and books that may be checked out for one
month at a time. Our librarian is very informative and can guide you to your area of interest.
We offer a variety of seminars throughout the year designed to encourage and
build up the family. We have monthly meetings to provide further
information related to home education and opportunities for informal discussion
groups.
Provide information about team sport and music activities including individual and group
setting, and year end evaluations and/or testing.
Doctrinal Statement
Our Board of Directors have purposed that the organization and all of its activities will be
consistently and forthrightly Christian. Thus we ask all members to subscribe to the following
theological statements:
The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God and constitutes completed and final
revelation. The Bible, in its original autograph, is without error in whole or in part, including
theological concepts as well as geographical and historical details.
God has existed from all eternity in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was God come in human flesh being fully God and fully man, except
without sin.
All men are in violation of God's righteous requirements and His Holy character, both by nature
and act; and are therefore under His wrath and just condemnation. The central purpose of the
coming of Jesus Christ was to pay the penalty for man's sins through His substitutionary
on the cross - the successful accomplishment of which was attested to by His subsequent visible,
bodily resurrection.
Salvation is offered as a gift; free to the sinner. This gift must be responded to in individual
faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, but the sacrificial of Jesus Christ alone.
The local church is God's central means and instrument through which He intends to carry out
His work in the world.
Monthly Meetings
On months that we don't have a weekend conference scheduled, T.E.A.C.H. holds
its monthly meeting on the last Thursday evening of the month at Northwoods Baptist Church at 3762 Capital Circle NW. The meetings start at 7:00 p.m. and concludes at
9:00pm. The doors open at 6:00pm to allow for signing up for field trips or classes, browse the
library or review other information. The meeting's format consists of several mini seminars
concerning various topics. Topics are chosen with the intent to meet as many needs as possible,
so some will be directed toward new home educators, while others toward veterans.
Conferences may be scheduled on any weekend of any given month. Check our
website for scheduled conferences.
Child care is not available. Children are welcome, but must be under the control and supervision
of their parents at all times. We would appreciate your consideration and cooperation with this
aspect of our meeting.
The meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend and are not exclusive to T.E.A.C.H.
members. However, library use and the newsletter
are limited to T.E.A.C.H. members.
